Local Improvement Petition

A local improvement is a project that is considered a greater benefit to your part of the neighbourhood rather than to the municipality as a whole. It is typically undertaken near or adjacent to your property. A local improvement is a noise wall.
Please Note: All information provided on Council, or Committees of Council, petition or correspondence will be publicly available.
Petition Guidelines

  • Each petition must be submitted to the City Clerk, Ontario Regulation 586/06 of the Municipal Act, 2001 R.S.O. 2001, states the following:
  • 9. (2) A petition in favour of undertaking a work as a local improvement shall be signed by at least two-thirds of the owners representing at least one-half of the value of the lots liable to be specially charged for the work

    10. (5) Where two or more persons are jointly assessed for a lot, in determining the sufficiency of a petition,

    (a) they shall be treated as one owner only; and
    (b) the majority of them must sign the petition for the petition to be determined sufficient

  • If you do not provide a clear statement on your petition, it will not be accepted.
  • The petition must be typed or legibly handwritten and use the petition form that is provided (No pencil) (Download Form)
  • The petition must be appropriate and respectful in tone, and must not contain any improper or offensive language or information.
  • Each petitioner must print and sign his or her own name, original signatures only.
  • Each petitioner must provide his or her full address, including property’s roll number for a noise wall petition.
  • The petition must clearly disclose on each page that it will be considered a public document at the City of Mississauga and that the information contained in it may be subject to the scrutiny of the City and other members of the general public.
